Companies plan to restrict online shopping at work
According to a recent survey based on more than 120 telephone interviews with CIOs from a random sample of Canadian companies with 100 or more employees, it is found that companies now plan to curb the use of internet for online shopping for their employees at work.
Approximately 40% of chief information officers say they will be blocking access to online shopping sites to prevent excessive time wasting at work, according to a new survey by Robert Half Technology.
A further 28% of CIOs said they will allow online shopping but they will monitor activity for excessive use. The executives said they expect employees on average to spend about four hours a week searching the web for bargains.
“Employees should exercise sound judgment while shopping on the job, especially if it hinders productivity or causes deadlines to slip,” Lara Dodo, Canadian regional vice president of Robert Half Technology said.
